In June 1907, the quarterly conference convened with the Verdella church. Among the visiting ministry was a new minister in this locality. He was the late T.C. Ferguson, born in Canada, but a resident of Carlow, MO, and he had worked with the Northwest Missouri churches for some years. The Hannon community held Sunday School in the town hall hall (which was the 2nd floor of the old grocery store) - and at times ministers from surrounding churches would preach for us on Sunday. The people enjoyed Brother Ferguson's preaching very much, and he was invited to come to Hannon. He came on the Thursday night following the services at the Verdella church. The community was "church hungry" at that time and he was welcomed by a large crowd. He could only stay the one service, but offered to return in the middle of August for revival services. He received a unanimous vote to come at that time.
A three-week revival was very spirited with many converts. He was requested to organize a church. He invited the late Rev. William H McKown, (also of Carlow, MO) to assist him in the organization. On Sat night, Sept 7, 1907, the body was organized with 19 charter members. The property for the church was purchased from J. Sam Brown, Oct 8, 1908, for the sum of $100 and the lot west of the church was later donated by Grant and Olive Smith. The first pastor was Rev. McKown, who served us ten consecutive years. Our next pastor was Rev. Willie H. York. He was pastor for two years, and then was ill one entire winter with typhoid fever. During his illness, we called Rev. Marion Clift of Niangua. He resigned after a little more than two years because of illness in his family. Brother WAC, Women Active for Christ, is our ladies group that meets once a quarter. We strive to minister both to our church and our community by organizing events such as wedding /baby showers, and dinners within the church; community service such as Teacher Appreciation and Back to School Breakfast; and Christmas giving such as Operation Shoebox or an Angel Tree.York had regained his health, and was called again and served us another eight years. During the 1920's the Hannon Church grew very fast in membership. It increased in numbers from 19 charter members to near 200.
Hannon Church is a member of the National Association of Free Will Baptists, with headquarters located in Nashville, TN. The church is very active in supporting the missionary and educational endeavors of the denomination, while maintaining its concern for the communities surrounding it. On May 7, 2000 a special service was held to dedicate the land at 1051 West Highway V for the building of a new church building. After nearly 100 years and many building projects the old building and land had been outgrown. The Francis Dickey Construction Company and his associates were the primary contractors, and many subcontractors were used to complete the project, including many volunteer workers too numerous to mention. This beautiful building is a testimony to God's bountiful blessings to his Church. We thank Him and give Him honor and praise for all He has done for us.
